Meetings

How our meeting works

Each meeting is organised and run by the Toastmaster of the evening. He or she will have prepared a schedule of speakers and activities which will include some of the following:
  • Prepared speeches – generally around seven minutes long although sometimes longer.
  • Table topics – members make two minute impromptu speeches.
  • Evaluations – everyone who speaks at a Toastmasters meeting receives a constructive and positive evaluation of their speech with commendations and recommendations.
  • Activities – a very wide range of possibilities.
  • Educational – short training sessions on skills and the Toastmasters organisation.
  • Prepared readings – of the speaker’s choosing.
  • Grammarian – reports to the meeting on the use of language and of “filler words” like um and ah.
  • Timer – reports to the meeting on the time taken by each speaker.
