Have fun with public speaking!
Meetings
How our meeting works
Each meeting is organised and run by the Toastmaster of the evening. He or she will have prepared a schedule of speakers and activities which will include some of the following:
- Prepared speeches - generally around seven minutes long although sometimes longer.
- Table topics - members make two minute impromptu speeches.
- Evaluations - everyone who speaks at a Toastmasters meeting receives a constructive and positive evaluation of their speech with commendations and recommendations.
- Activities - a very wide range of possibilities.
- Educational - short training sessions on skills and the Toastmasters organisation.
- Prepared readings - of the speaker's choosing.
- Grammarian - reports to the meeting on the use of language and of "filler words" like um and ah.
- Timer - reports to the meeting on the time taken by each speaker.
We meet every Thursday evening from 7:30 pm to 9:15 pm at Bowls Papanui at 181 Condell Avenue next to Edgar MacIntosh Park.

Our meetings start on the third Thursday in January and end on the second Thursday in December. Note that we do not meet when the next day is a public holiday (like Easter and Show Week).
